We implemented every possible weight-saving measure while maintaining the original's moment of inertia, resulting in performance that surpasses the first generation.
While the first-gen 992 used 30t carbon for the tip and a 30t+40t composite for the butt, the second-gen 992 employs a 30t+40t composite for the tip and a 30t+40t+46t composite for the butt. Both the tip and butt sections show improvements in stiffness, sensitivity, and resilience.
Although the mandrel remains the same as the original, the number of carbon layers has been increased to boost power and torque; the maximum lure weight has also been raised by 5g to 45g, enabling a more aggressive fishing style than ever before. Despite the increased power, handling has improved dramatically thanks to the weight reductions achieved in the details.
During testing, double-foot butt guides significantly compromised the blank's balance, so single-foot guides are used throughout; however, the three guides closest to the butt feature triple-wrapping to ensure strength and prevent thread cracking.
As for the blank itself, the moment you hold it, its design for targeting "lunker" (trophy-sized) fish might give the impression of a rigid, unyielding pole; in reality, however, it is engineered with a butt section that flexes under the load of a big fish, allowing the angler to control heavy loads exactly as intended. While the original 992 model was designed with river-based blackfin seabass fishing as its primary concept, the second-generation 992 was developed with anglers who frequently target blackfin seabass on rocky shores in mind; it is fully capable of handling not only river seabass but also rocky-shore blackfin seabass. Testing was conducted targeting blackfin seabass from low-lying rocky shores and massive seabass in medium-to-large rivers, using lures ranging from medium-sized minnows (120mm–140mm) and vibration plugs (21g–28g) to sinking pencil plugs weighing around 30g. The rod features a tip delicate enough to maintain control amidst raging river currents or the wind and swells of rocky shores—yet robust enough to handle full casts of 35g jigs using pendulum techniques—and a powerful butt section that allows you to confidently lift blackfin seabass weighing over 6kg without fear, maintaining firm tension throughout the fight.
