The Monster Plugger MPB-656-AR—a rod with a 6oz lure rating designed around the concept of "big baits"—has been completed after a full four years of development starting in 2020.
To achieve a true one-piece, through-blank design—a first for the entire Seven-Sense series—we spent four years accumulating and building foundational data. This process resulted in the optimization of weight, resilience, durability, and sensitivity.
The result is a high-strength, high-modulus blank that boasts astonishingly slim dimensions and powerful resilience for a one-piece, through-blank rod in the 4oz big-bait class.
The blank utilizes a prepreg composition of 30t, 40t, and 46t carbon materials.
The minimum lure weight is approximately 20g. With a slightly stiff tip setting, it delivers exceptional casting distance for 2oz–4oz topwater pencil plugs and excels at both crisp, aggressive "dog-walking" and smooth "skating" actions. It also allows for comfortable full-casting and manipulation of jointed baits in the same weight range; while it handles the 2oz–4oz range with ease, it is also capable of effortless full-casting with lures up to 6oz.
As the Seven-Sense series is designed for a variety of target species, all guides feature titanium frames with SiC inserts. Given current shipping constraints, this may well be the last one-piece blank we develop.
Designed primarily for targeting "Huge Seabass" inshore, the rod comfortably handles a wide range of lures: topwater plugs (40g–130g), jointed baits (42g–168g), vibration plugs (35g–56g), minnows (39g–60g), and diving pencil plugs (110g). It is also tuned to handle lighter lures, such as 20g vibration plugs, 25g minnows, and 28g sinking pencil plugs.
