The DoLive Stick was not originally developed with "back-sliding" (reverse-gliding) use in mind.
However, the idea that "inserting the hook in reverse might cause it to slide backward" unlocked immense fish-catching potential; because it simply catches fish so effectively, it has built a strong track record specifically as a back-sliding bait.
Its unique back-sliding fall—characterized by a wobbling, twisting body and a tail that swings side-to-side—perfectly imitates a defenseless baitfish swimming along or a shrimp drifting in the current.
A sharp upward twitch after the bait hits the bottom mimics the kick-back escape motion of a shrimp or crayfish, triggering an instant reaction even from bass that didn't bite during the initial fall.
Yet, when trying to slide the bait into heavy cover, even the 4.5-inch model's weight can sometimes prove insufficient; in strong winds or depending on reel performance, the trajectory might lift, making accurate casting difficult or causing the lure to fall just short of the target spot.
Stepping up to the 6-inch model provides plenty of weight, but its larger body size makes it difficult to slip into tight crevices.
We wanted a model that retained the DoLive Stick's signature lively, spontaneous fall action while offering superior castability and the ability to penetrate heavy cover. The DoLive Stick Fat 4.5-inch was born from this desire; we optimized the body shape to maintain ideal spontaneous action while increasing the overall bulk. While keeping dimensions nearly identical to the original 4.5-inch model, we successfully increased the weight by approximately 3g (bringing it to about 11.4g).
This allows for comfortable, precise approaches to cover and brings distant targets within casting range.
Furthermore, the increased weight boosts the momentum of the back-sliding fall, allowing the lure to penetrate deep into cover without being hindered by the drag of heavier lines, such as the 16-pound class. Naturally, it is highly effective when rigged normally with the hook inserted through the head. The combination of darting action produced by twitching and a tail-shimmering fall—coupled with its excellent long-casting capability—makes it advantageous for efficiently scanning the water horizontally.
To fully unlock its signature spontaneous action and ensure solid hookups, we recommend using a wide-gap hook in the 4/0 to 5/0 size range.
