Throughout the year, the 3–4 meter depth range proves to be a critical zone in almost any fishing environment; with its stable water temperatures and abundant baitfish, it is an area that simply cannot be overlooked.
Effectively covering this 3–4 meter range requires the use of "fast-moving" lures. Typically, crankbaits designed to reach 4 meters require a long retrieve distance to achieve that depth—which in turn necessitates a larger, heavier body, often equipped with a weight-transfer system.
However, on heavily fished "major" lakes, during crowded weekends, or when baitfish are small, such conventional lures often fall short. I felt a strong need for a deep-diving crankbait that defies the standard conventions regarding body size.
The EX-DR was developed with two key criteria: a compact body and the absence of a weight-transfer system.
While eliminating a weight-transfer system significantly increases the difficulty of balancing casting distance with swimming performance, the resulting capabilities are truly irreplaceable.
Without the internal ribs required to house a moving weight, the lure’s body is stripped of all excess material. This allows for an immediate response upon starting the retrieve, increases the bite rate during "stop-and-go" techniques, and maintains an enticing action even at slow speeds.
Overall performance is enhanced across the board, including the ability to remain stable even during high-speed retrieves.
We also succeeded in achieving the necessary casting distance to reach a depth of 4 meters, all while keeping the lure’s weight to just 12 grams and avoiding the use of a weight-transfer system.
The body features a laterally compressed, "vertically flat" shape—reminiscent of a shad—which excels in tough conditions.
Its semi-flat sides generate both water displacement and flashes, effectively attracting bass from a wider area while also triggering strikes.
