Retaining its original concept, the "Midnight Monster 98 'Bigonecustom'" excels at power games targeting huge seabass and blackfin bass on rocky shores using medium-to-large lures. Weighing an incredibly light 165g, it allows for agile lure manipulation—even in the heavy, powerful currents of rivers with extreme tidal ranges—while targeting massive seabass feeding on large baitfish. It possesses the power to handle "monster-class" fish (including those reaching 10kg) with ease, never ceding control, yet features a butt section designed to provide the "give" (flex) characteristic of the SR series, enabling the angler to handle 80cm+ fish efficiently, almost as if simply retrieving them.
Its powerful blank, designed for lures up to 45g, is also well-suited for targeting blackfin bass on rocky shores.
Thanks to the unique handling characteristics of a baitcasting rod, it offers advantages surpassing even lever-brake spinning reels; mastering this rod inevitably leads to a higher catch rate than using a spinning model.
The acceptable lure weight range is 12g–40g for sinking pencil plugs, 10g–35g for minnows, 15g–35g for vibration plugs, and 18g–44g for metal vibration plugs. The blank performs best with 28g vibration plugs, 31g sinking pencil plugs, 26g minnows, and 35g metal vibration plugs.
Testing was conducted targeting huge seabass—specifically in low-profile rocky shore environments and medium-to-large rivers (particularly those with rapid currents following rainfall)—using lures ranging from medium minnows (120mm–140mm) and vibration plugs (21g–28g) to sinking pencil plugs around 30g.
The rod features a delicate tip that holds its own against strong river currents and the wind and swells of rocky shores, while also allowing for full-power casting of 35g jigs. The butt section has been tuned to provide solid leverage against sea bass weighing 5kg or more, allowing you to land "monster-class" fish with confidence and composure.
