"Monster Plugger" is a new category of seabass rods specialized for the comfortable handling of large plugs. The "Big Bait 78-3 Special" is designed specifically for big baits with a maximum lure weight of 3oz.
This model offers excellent shore-based maneuverability and long-casting capabilities for everything from standard 20g minnows to 48g large minnows. It also ensures confident, comfortable control of S-pattern jointed minnows (30g–60g) and allows for agile execution of "panic action" and "walk-the-dog" techniques with topwater lures (30g–80g). The "78-3 Special"—a fast-action model suitable for both shore and offshore fishing—combines a 7.8ft length and a 3oz max lure rating with a lightweight build and the strength to handle large lures without hesitation.
It is tuned for comfortable handling of a wide range of lures—including minnows (19g–53g), sinking pencil plugs (19g–60g), vibration plugs (25g–45g), jointed minnows (39g–60g), topwater plugs (42g–80g), and diving pencil plugs (80g)—targeting huge seabass in environments ranging from small to large rivers and open waters.
We engineered this big-bait-specific rod—suitable for both shore and offshore use—by setting the blank strength specifically for seabass fishing; it delivers the necessary durability while achieving a lightweight design and a balanced feel that eliminates tip-heaviness.
