Introducing the Monster Surf 1062 "Sinking Pencil Special"—a rod featuring a delicate tip for comfortably handling 40–50g sinking pencil plugs and 40–60g metal jigs, combined with butt power a step above the "Bakuto Special."
It is capable of handling 10kg-class yellowtail in open-ocean surf or rocky beach environments, and can confidently manage 7kg-class fish even on rocky shores.
While built with the durability to withstand constant full-power casting of 40–50g sinking pencils, the rod has been made as lightweight as possible. This lightness facilitates agile, repetitive rod work—such as jerking or popping—allowing anglers to maintain focus and fish for extended periods without fatigue.
It is also designed to handle large baitfish—such as the 20cm sardines or 30cm gizzard shad and mullet often preyed upon by large yellowtail in harbors—and excels at working large 30–50g minnows and topwater lures.
Although the tip is designed to be relatively stiff for easy handling of large minnows and heavy sinking pencils, it also handles lighter 18g minnows comfortably and without issue.
Regarding casting distance, the rod’s rebound characteristics are tuned to allow for easy loading and a crisp release, generating overwhelming distance in situations where long casts are crucial—such as on gently sloping surf beaches or when targeting fish breaking the surface at a distance.
When performing a full pendulum cast with PE #1.5 line, the rod’s effective range consistently exceeds 90 meters with a 40g sinking pencil and over 100 meters with a 50g metal jig.
Target species include not only flatfish but also a wide range of 7kg-class shore-based game fish, such as seabass, blackfin seabass, Spanish mackerel, and yellowtail. Whether fishing open-ocean surf, cobble beaches, breakwaters, rocky shores, or offshore reefs, this "Sinking Pencil Special" delivers agile, comfortable performance without exaggeration. We invite anglers who prioritize casting distance to fully enjoy the exhilarating casting experience this rod offers in these dynamic environments.
The blank is engineered for comfortable handling of medium-to-large minnows (120mm–170mm), vibration plugs (28g–43g), and sinking pencil plugs (37g–50g)—ideal for targeting huge seabass and yellowtail in locations ranging from open surf and rocky shores to offshore reefs and harbor breakwaters.
By balancing the tip section—which offers the suppleness needed for control alongside the resilience to withstand the heavy drag of large minnows—with a taper designed for effortless long-distance casting and a precisely tuned 46t carbon blend, we have created an ultra-lightweight, powerful blank that combines repulsion, stiffness, and flexibility, making it perfect for extended fishing sessions.
